Interesting construction facts (Интересные факты строительства)
The Romans adopted many ideas from the Greeks, but developed many new technologies and designs themselves. They learned how to make concrete about 200 BC. At first it was used to build foundations, but soon they began to use it to build walls and huge domed roofs. They developed arches for the construction of buildings, bridges and aqueducts. For 200 years BC, insulas were built in all Roman cities - four- and five-story buildings - housing.

History of construction development
The turning point in architecture was 1800, when traditional styles began to give way to modern ones, and new technologies began to be used in construction. In Europe and South America, there were tendencies to repeat early styles, in particular Greek and Roman, and to adopt exotic styles brought from the colonies, especially from India. During this period, the construction of stately country and city mansions with large windows fashionable at that time increased, as well as a new influence of new industries, for which stately factories and new cities were built. New styles appeared - Georgian in England and Palladin in the United States of America. New technologies made it possible to design buildings of a new type, in the construction of which new materials were used. In 1779, cast iron was first used to build a bridge over the River Severn in England.
Glass was first used as the main building material (the Crystal Palace at the First World Exhibition in London in 1851 was built from glazed panels). At the end of the century, complex spatial structures were constructed from metal. In 1889, according to the project of A. G. Eiffel, in the center of Paris, in connection with the World Exhibition, a tower 312 m high was built, assembled from steel elements. Over time, this building has become a symbol of Paris.
